Abstract Isaac Carpenter of Philadelphia acknowledges that some time ago he had executed a deed of manumission in favor of his wife Leah and his children Caleb (or Calop) and Hannah Carpenter "and that I never did consider them or either of them from the time of purchase of them in any other light than as free saving the authority of an Husband...and parent...and whereas it is represented to me by George Rosse, in whose care the deed was, was while he was confined by sickness after his return from the Army, the said of manumission was lost or mislaid...and whereas I fully remember to have duly executed such a deed in the presence of Elizabeth Rosse and the said George...and that it was executed while I lived in this County". Isaac now acknowledges and sets free his wife Leah and children Caleb and Hannah.
