| Abstract | John Stevens of the county does hereby declare that on the 23rd of September 1802 he did import and bring with him from Washington, D.C. into the county the following Negroes: being a Negro man "Tom" aged 48 formerly the property of William Stevens of the county who by his last will and testament dated January 16th of 1798 did devise the said Negro man to the said John and also a Negro woman "Sinah" aged 21 and Negro "Arthur" aged 17 formerly the property of Drummond Marshall of Worcester County and from whom he in a cause of distribution to his daughter Betsy with whom the said Stevens intermarried did acquire his right and title to the said Negroes and that the said Negroes were born in the State of Maryland and were carried with Stevens to Washington D.C. about 18 months past and are now brought back for Steven's own use and not for sale. |
