Church Service, Charges Served, Affiliated Locations, and Other Biographical Information Volunteered for service with the Thirtieth Maryland Regiment of Colored Troops during Civil War. Was second Sergeant of his company. Attended church & Sunday School & in 1882 made serving in church his profession. Was Steward & Class Leader in Asbury Church, Baltimore. Few opportunities to attend school since there were no public schools for colored children in his youth. Attended private school for 6 months & was able to help his children with their lessons. Teacher & scholar for 60 years. Member of Masons, Odd Fellows & Sons of Temperance.
Family and Other Information Parents were Methodist; father died when he was infant; mother was member of Asbury M. E. Church, Baltimore & took him & his 3 older brothers to Sunday School. Spouse: Sarah A. Marine md. 1856 - 12 children. Survived by wife, 2 sons, 1 daughter, 15 grandchildren & 1 brother. He was father of Rev. James H. Scott
