| Church Service, Charges Served, Affiliated Locations, and Other Biographical Information | He was bound to a family in Odessa, Del when very young. Converted in a white congregation of M. E. Church nears Sassafras, Kent Cty, Md. In 1830. Licensed to preach 12/12/1851. Achieved various positions. When invited & visiting Lewiston circuit near Laurel, Del., he was prevented by the white people who armed themselves & went to house of one Brother Samuel Spencer & captured him. After warning him of what would happen if he returned to preach the gospel, they let him go. He did return & was again assailed by crowd of white boys & was hidden. Taken from hiding place he was carried ten miles away from Laurel, away from friend & was released. Appointments: Port Deposit; Mt. Zion, Dover; Bridgeville; New Castle & others. Was a Conference steward. Was superannuated in 1884. Preached last sermon in 1890. |
