| Family History Notes | 1. Mary Skinner, born say 1740, deserted her white husband and went to live with a slave who was the father of her child according to a notice placed by her husband in the 12 October 1769 issue of the Maryland Gazette. She was probably the mother of i. Salada, head of a Dorchester County household of 8 "other free" in 1800 [MD:691]. 2 ii. Harry, born say 1770. 2. Harry Skinner, born say 1770, was head of a Talbot County household of 6 "other free" in 1800 [MD:521]. He may have been the father of i. Thomas, born about 1791, obtained a certificate of freedom in Talbot County on 21 October 1815: a mulatto man ... about 24 years of age ... born free & raised in the County. ii. Henry, born about 1796, obtained a certificate of freedom in Talbot County on 15 June 1816: born free and raised in the County ... about 20 years of age ... of a light Complexion [Certificates of Freedom 1815-28, 7, 33]. |
