Message Abstract States that in consequence of the departure of their teacher, (Mr. Hamilton), occasioned by a threatened assault by an armed mob, they are without one: That Mr. Hamilton writes him that, their proper course is to write to the Supt. that he may send a teacher from the Bureau: That there are between 70 and 80 pupils attached to the school who are being indifferently instructed by some of their no.: That the offenders against the peace are known, and the County Attorney is ready to proceed to prosecution whenever Mr. Hamilton appears. Wishes an answer at your earliest convenience.
Message Body Our colored school at this place is left without a teacher by Mr Hamilton (our former teacher) leaving, his life having been threatened by an armed mob, who threatened to lynch him or any other white man who should attempt to teach our school. Mr Hamilton writes that our best plan is, to write to you for a teacher from the Freedmans Bureau. We are very much in want of a teacher and if it is in the power of your departm't to furnish us with one, we would like to have him come soon as our school has from seventy to eighty pupils who are indifferently instructed by two of their own number They are all very anxious to learn Please let me hear from you at your earliest convenience as to what you can do for us Our County attorney is ready to prosecute the parties who threatened Mr Hamilton's life, if Mr H will appear and make oath against them. The guilty parties are all known, but are likely to go unpunished on account of Mr Hamilton leaving the County
