Description/Full Text | Where slaves, &.c are sold out of penitentiary keeper to deposit money in some bank in Baltimore. Persons convicted of enticing or as- sisting slaves, knowingly to run away, to undergo a confinement, in the penitentiary. See. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That from and after the passage of this act, in all cases where any slave, or servant for a term of years, shall be sold out of the penitentiary of this state, under the provisions of the act to which this is a sup- plement, that it shall be the duty of the keeper of the penitentiary to deposit the money arising from such sale, in some bank in the city of Baltimore, and immediately to notify the clerk of the coun- ty, for the use of which the said deposit shall have been made, which money shall be. subject to the order of the. justices of the levy court of the county aforesaid. 2. And be it enacted, That if any free person shall be convicted for having enticed, persuaded, or assisted any slave or servant, knowing him or her to be such, to run away from his or her lawful owner or possessor, and such slave or servant shall actually run away, or having harboured such runaway slave or servant, know- ing him or her to be such, thru such person shall be liable to in- dictment in the county court of the county where he or she resides, or in the city court of Baltimore if he or she resides in the city of Baltimore, and upon conviction shall undergo a confinement in the penitentiary not exceeding six years. |
