Abstract of Record Indenture between William Whaland & Arthur Lankford, 2 Justices of the Peace of Md. on the one part and Nelson Roberts on the other part have bound out as apprentice Thomas Johnson, colored boy, orphan, who will be 6 yo on 1 March next to Nelson Roberts until 21 yo. To learn trade & "mistery" of farming or cause him to be "lernt" to read if apprentice be capable to learn. To serve from present date until 1 March 1850; at end of term to receive suit of clothes worth $10 or that amount in cash.
