Abstract of Record | Indenture between James L Waller & Jacob W. Bayly (Justices of Peace) & Elijah Christopher establishes apprenticeship of Moses Philips, 16 yo free boy of colour who is grandson of Tamer Lank, free woman of colour of Somerset, with whom living but who has no visible means of supporting boy. To be placed as apprentice with Elijah Christopher to learn skill of working & managing a bay vessel until 21. Moses to be taught to read if teachable and to be provided with sufficient meat, drink, physick, clothing, lodging. At end of term to receive suit of wearing apparel worth $16. |
