This voter registration roll includes the names, districts, political parties, and ages of Black voters in Somerset County, Maryland in 1920. The 19th amendment was ratified in 1920 extending the right to vote to women. Therefore, this election was the first election women could participate in.
The gender of individuals is inferred by name only. Additionally, the Smith Island District recorded no Black voters registered to vote in 1920.
The original voter roll comes from the Local History Archives at the Nabb Research Center and more information on the item can be found in the finding aid.
