Moving back to Philadelphia at 18 yo, he applied for local preacher's license & served as pastor of John Wesley M.E. Church, West Philadelphia. Entered Delaware Conference in 1903 & served 22 years. Places served: Mt. Zion M.E. Church, Pocomoke City, Md; St. Pauls M. E. Church, Philadelphia, Pa.; John Wesley M. E. Church, West Philadelphia; Warwick, Del. Entered Delaware Conference & served: Easton Circuit, Md; Barclay, Md; Marion, Beckwith, Md; Merchantville, N.J. & Seaford, De.
Family and Other Information Parents: Mr. & Mrs. John Purnell Spouse: Catharine Alexander (met in Philadelphia) who survives him. Children: Edith, Mildred, Essie, William, Frederick, Ruth, Gwendolyn & Roland- 6 survive him.
