In the late 19th and early 20th century, the health and beauty industry was one of the few enterprises where women could succeed as entrepreneurs. Some of the leaders in this field included Lydia Pinkham, Helena Rubinstein, Elizabeth Arden, and Madame C. J. Walker. These women created and revolutionized the industry and established themselves as independent business and community leaders in an era when women had few opportunities.
