Guys and Dolls, 1972

Guys and Dolls is a musical written by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows with songs from Frank Loesser that premiered on Broadway in 1950 and won a Tony Award for Best Musical. It opened at the Salisbury State Theatre in November of 1972 and was on stage for four nights.

The musical is based on three short stories, “The Idyll of Miss Sarah Brown,” “Blood Pressure,” and “Pick the Winner,” written by American author Damon Runyon. The story takes place in New York and revolves around a bet between Nathan Detroit, a crap game organizer, and Sky Masterson, a notorious gambler. It is a romantic comedy with scenes in New York and Havana, Cuba.

The show was directed by Leland Starnes and designed by Robert Cloyd with choreography by Janetta McNamara, costumes by Deleah Carl, and lighting by Thomas Clemens.

The cast included Paul Pfeiffer as Nathan Detroit, Gail Quinn as Sarah Brown, Robert Getz as Sky Masterson, and Carole Solomon as Adelaide.
